3D Animator
The Adler Planetarium

(a full-time exempt position)

The Adler Planetarium is seeking a 3D Animator to create 3D production assets and animation elements for use in full-dome theater experiences, exhibits, and education programming. This position reports to the Director of the Art and Animation Department.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create art animation assets for theater experiences including 3D modeling, texturing, lighting, animation, scene construction layout, and compositing;
  • Create animation renders and composites for theater experiences and other department production assignments;
  • Organize production files and images for storage;
  • Trouble shoot new technology upgrades to ensure that all updates are compatible with existing and future needs;
  • Communicate effectively with other departments regarding production process and progress related to project assignments;
  • Assist in maintaining a minidome production studio;
  • Participate in department, production, and project team meetings.

Education and Experience:

  • Two to four years of formal film and/or animation training;
  • A B.F.A. in animation, media, or a related field is preferred;
  • Exposure to and grasp of the basics of astronomy and an interest in science;
  • Three years of planetarium full-dome production experience is preferred;
  • Working knowledge of print, photography, animation and video production is also preferred.
